The Goal
Next week, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign to make this dream a reality. We need to raise a minimum of €9,500 to secure the purchase of the land, with a stretch goal of €19,500 to fully fund the necessary fencing, mobile shelters, and dedicated rehabilitation enclosures.
A Sneak Peek at the Rewards: Art & Activism
We are funding this expansion through art and activism. We have partnered with our incredible network of Artists-in-Residence (AIRs) and local collaborators to offer you exclusive, beautiful rewards in exchange for your support.
By backing the campaign when it goes live, you will be able to claim exclusive items such as:
Limited-edition pins from the Hektor collection.
Exclusive original artworks by artists in residence and a special series of portraits by Yves.
Signed copies of The Scruffy Chef Magazine.
Vouchers for stays at Hektor, including exclusive three- and five-course dinners by The Scruffy Chef.

Meet the Residents of Auchón:
Why We Need This Land
Every animal at Hektor has a story of survival, and every single one of them deserves the absolute best life we can offer. By helping us quadruple the size of our sanctuary, you aren't just buying land—you are buying freedom, space to heal, and a forever home for these incredible rescues. Here is who you are supporting:
The Grazers: Loki, Malala & Stella
Our sheep have tough pasts. Stella, a Pelibüey sheep and one of our first rescues, was mistreated at a farm and can still be quite nervous. Loki, our gentle giant, likely escaped a sheep farm and was found wandering. Malala's mother was found pregnant in the same area, and Malala only gained confidence in humans after some necessary haircuts.
The Campaign Impact:
Loki and Malala were specifically moved to Hektor from another rescue so they could have more space. Expanding the land fulfills our promise to them, giving nervous rescues like Stella quiet, expansive grazing areas where they can feel entirely secure.
The Guardians & Cuddlers: Frits, Carmen, Rofe & Namas
Hektor wouldn't be complete without our dogs and cats. Frits was given up for being a "difficult" dog, but here, he is the ultimate guardian of the premises and an absolute cuddle monster. Rofe and Namas are our inseparable big and little brother cat duo, while Carmen is a cat who views every new human guest as an opportunity to share a cozy bed.
The Campaign Impact:
While they might not need stables, expanding the sanctuary means a bigger, better Hektor for Frits to protect and more wonderful, animal-loving guests for Carmen to snuggle with!
The Feathers & Beaks: Gemma, Felipe, and the Chickens
Our birds are a beautiful, blended family. Gemma the goose is our newest resident; after her buddy died, she moved in from the neighbors with the pigs and has become our primary alarm system (and a huge cuddle bug!). Felipe the Muscovy duck was bullied by his brothers at his previous rescue and prefers to stay out of the sun. Our chickens include Penny (the daredevil leader), Paloma (a former outsider looking to blend in), and Olga and Blossom, who both came from an organic farm with physical issues like a tumor and injuries from being trampled.
The Campaign Impact:
The stretch goal of our campaign includes dedicated rehabilitation enclosures. This means safe, shaded areas for Felipe, a protected space where vulnerable birds like Olga won't be trampled, and plenty of room for Gemma and Penny to patrol!
The Pig Pen: Tempeh & Tofu
Tempeh (a Pietrain Duroc) came to us as a spare from a farm; if he hadn't been rescued, he likely would have been killed. Today, he is forever our "little kid". Tofu, a Canarian pig, was brought in to keep Tempeh company and quickly became the one in charge. As a breed that faces challenges coping with weight at full size, Tofu needs to stay active.
The Campaign Impact:
A massive new enclosure will give Tofu the space she needs to exercise and forage, while giving both pigs a vast area to explore.
Silvestre
the Majorero Donkey
Silvestre is one of our very first residents and acts as the "mental caretaker" of the sanctuary. Before he found us, he spent five long years living in complete solitude on a tiny 20m2 patch of land. He is also allergic to local plants and flies.
The Campaign Impact:
After years of confinement, Silvestre deserves endless room to roam safely. The expanded land means more carefully managed space where he can stretch his legs and live out his days in peace.
The "Royal Turkeys": Isidro, Houdina & Isabella
Our three peacocks are the result of their mother secretly hiding a nest at another rescue spot. They love to wander up to the windows to look inside at what we are doing.
The Campaign Impact:
They don't call them "royal turkeys" for nothing—this land purchase will quite literally quadruple their royal kingdom!
