The surroundings

From the very first time we visited Lanzarote, we were blown away by the beauty of the island and everything you could discover there. We have visited the island plenty of times and are each time surprised when we bump into new great places. Let’s have a look at some great places in the close proximity of Hektor.

Mirador de Ermita de las Nieves

Just a short, but steep walk, up the mountains, you’ll see Mirador de Ermita de las Nieves. Legend has it that, in 1427, the virgin appeared to a shepherd north of the peaks of the Famara cliff. That miracle forged the history of the Virgen de las Nieves, in honor of whom a small hermitage was built in this place, the highest on the island, almost 650 meters above sea level.

The hermitage was burned in the 16th century by pirates and it would take more than a decade before it was rebuilt. It is now known as hermitage for the farmers to ask for rain for their crops. But what’s more is that this place has great views on Famara, which is right at the bottom of this hill.

Haría

A quick drive up north brings you to Haría. This beautiful farming, in the middle of the valley of a thousand palms is one of the prettiest of the island. It is also the home to the Museo Casa of the renowned artist César Manrique where you will discover the home of the architects who’s views have defined the look of the island.

Los Barranquillos

In the north west of Lanzarote, you will find the beaches of Los Baranquillos. They are not so much known by many tourists, but are a great escape from busier and more touristy places like Puerto Del Carmen, Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca. Definitely worth a stroll on a sunny day during your Lanzarote visit.
