Artist stays

Hektor is a safe space for artists, activists, guests and friends. We want to use our estate to create a better and more creative world, from one of the world’s most inspiring islands: Lanzarote.

Next to residencies (which usually take a month, and should have a clear link to the island, its communities, our project and/or our values), we also offer artists stays (7 to 14 days).

Please read through the description to learn more.

  • We open our doors to any art form as long as you endorse our values: planet-driven, diverse, progressive and open.

  • We offer one of our suites for residencies.

Our suites (30 - 40m2) have a kitchenette, one or two rooms, en-suite bathroom and a double bed, including bed sheets, towels, toiletry and bi-weekly cleaning.

There is a shared atelier workspace (app. 16 m2) that is reserved for artists / activists, which has an extra kitchen. Our rates:

    • 50% off of our lowest commercial rate for that period if you come alone, 40% if you come with two.

    • In return, we ask for a donation for our collection (see more on this page), to be specified in your application.

  • Our suites are situated in the main house of Hektor and have one or two rooms, a dining area, kitchenette and en-suite bathroom. There is WiFi. They have been renovated in 2022/2023 and are decorated with our arts, design & crafts collection.

Hektor also offers a shared garden with pool, relaxing spots and plenty of opportunities to work in the open air. There is also a picking garden (free to harvest whatever is ripe) and 12.000m2 of farmlands.

The atelier is reserved for our artists and has an extra kitchen, which you can use. Specialized materials (like a baking oven or recording material, …) are not provided. We are happy to help you find the right people should you need any of these.

We offer a weekly meal for our artists (at least one per stay), can provide breakfast and have an honesty bar.

  • We strongly believe interactions reinforces the love for art and what you create. For that, it is important to us that other artists, guests, and ourselves can interact. We consider the suites a private place, but the atelier and the farmland spaces to meet, talk and get to know each other.

  • Our selection procedure starts with a simple registration, see below. We ask for 15 working days to evaluate your application.

We will select based on your project description and body of work you would like to donate.

Your stay will be secured after you paid the full amount of the stay.

  • Openness is a key value at Hektor. We want all our guests to feel comfortable around the place and each other, and interact when appropriate.

We do not expect any work donations, but ask the following:

    • All pictures taken of the property should mention Hektor (link on website, tags on social media). Print is not allowed unless there is a written confirmation (only e-mail) of us.

    • We ask every artist to bring a 50 x 50 cm piece of textile.

We expect every artist to respect any safety measurements that are necessary to create their work. Breaching this will be a ground for immediate removal.

We want Hektor to be a diverse place, where everyone feels safe. Toxic behavior, racism, bigotry, … are a reason for removal.

As we are a plant-based guest house, we kindly ask you not to prepare or eat any meat or fish on the premises. Smoking is not allowed in the entire house and studio and only on a designated area. Minimum age is 16 for all guests.

  • We will add your body of work to our collection and showcase it in exhibitions.

  • We are a planet-driven guest house: we strongly believe we have to reduce our impact, definitely on an island like Lanzarote. That’s why we serve plant-based food (primarily from our garden), try to limit our use of energy and re-use our water.

We want Hektor to be as diverse as the ground and the house allows us too.

We want to make a change with this project, and show we take steps towards a better world. That can be any kind of step, no matter how small.

We believe in an open and direct communication.
