Our suites (30 - 40m2) have a kitchenette, one or two rooms, en-suite bathroom and a double bed, including bed sheets, towels, toiletry and bi-weekly cleaning.

There is a shared atelier workspace (app. 16 m2) that is reserved for artists / activists from 10.00 to 18.00 which has an extra kitchen.

    Our rates:

    • € 50 per night for the artist/activist (excl. taxes if applicable) . Minimum stay is 14 nights.

    • € 1.250 for a stay of one month (artist/activist)

    • € 22 per night for an extra guest (max. 2 people per suite)

Discounts are possible, when contributing (see expectations). All prices are excluding applicable taxes.

  • Our suites are situated in the main house of Hektor and have one or two rooms, a dining area, kitchenette and en-suite bathroom. There is WiFi. They are being renovated in 2022/2023 and are decorated with our arts, design & crafts collection.

Hektor also offers a shared garden with pool, relaxing spots and plenty of opportunities to work in the open air. There is also a picking garden (free to harvest whatever is ripe) and 12.000m2 of farmlands.

The atelier is reserved for our artists between 10.00 & 18.00 and has an extra kitchen, which you can use. Specialized materials (like a baking oven, easel, recording, …) are not standard provided but can be discussed (e.g. in collaboration with one of the many craftspeople on the island). We are happy to help.

Hektor has exhibition and presenting / performance possibilities. We will discuss this during the selection phase.

We offer a weekly meal for our artists (at least one per stay) and can provide breakfast with extras like breakfast and an honesty bar.

  • We strongly believe interactions reinforces the love for art and what you create. For that, it is important to us that other artists, guests, and ourselves can interact. We consider the suites a private place, but the atelier and the farmland spaces to meet, talk and get to know each other.

We are also happy to get you in touch with people and organizations on - or visitors to - the island whom might be interesting for your work. We will further evaluate your needs after the selection.

  • Our selection procedure starts with a simple registration. We ask for 15 working days to evaluate your application. A video call will be planned if your application is accepted, to get to know each other and to touch ground upon mutual expectations.

If we all feel like continuing with the residency, a letter of agreement will be send to you. Your residency will be secured after you have a send us a signed copy and paid a 50% deposit (with a maximum of € 600 per suite).

  • Openness is a key value to participating in an AIR at Hektor. We want all our guests to feel comfortable around the place and each other, and interact when appropriate.

Depending on your stay we define your project in different ways:

    • stays shorter than 20 days should have a clear creation outcome (e.g. writing a scenario, painting), …

    • longer stays can be focused on research too

We do not expect any work donations, but ask the following:

    • Acknowledgment for work produced during or as a result of the residency on the artists / activists website (including link), social media (including tag), print media (including link to website).

    • All pictures taken of the property should mention Hektor (link on website, tags on social media). Print is not allowed unless there is a written confirmation (only e-mail) of us.

    • We will create a webpage of you as an artist - prior to your arrival and update this after your stay. We kindly ask you to provide us with qualitative material.

    • We ask every artist to bring a 50 x 50 cm piece of textile.

Contributing to Hektor with art work is possible, and will be discussed in the selection process. We will offer a discount up to 40% (with a maximum of € 500) for contributions.

Showcasing (and selling) your work is possible during your stay. We are happy to promote and support any kind of showcasing. We ask for a 20% commission for any kind of sales during the residency. In return, we will take care of production costs like repainting of walls, small exhibitions materials, marketing, …

We expect every artist to respect any safety measurements that are necessary to create their work. Breaching this will be a ground for immediate removal.

We want Hektor to be a diverse place, where everyone feels safe. Toxic behavior, racism, bigotry, … are a reason for removal.

As we are a plant-based guest house, we kindly ask you not to prepare any meat or fish on the premises. We will share our favorite recipes with you. Smoking is not allowed in the entire house and studio and only on a designated area. Minimum age is 16 for all guests.

  • Every artist gets an updated webpage after the residency, including a description of the artist about his residency. When work is created or finished, it will be added to this webpage. Hektor gets the permission to share the work that has been created (or has been created as a result of the residency) on its online media. We will always mention, tag and link to the artist. Publications on external media will always be discussed with the artist.

From every artist, Yves will create a portrait during their stay. This picture will be used on our media. The artist can use the picture on their online media as well. However, it does not give the artist permission to publish the portrait in print media or not owned media.

  • We are a planet-driven guest house: we strongly believe we have to reduce our impact, definitely on an island like Lanzarote. That’s why we serve plant-based food (primarily from our garden), try to limit our use of energy and re-use our water.

We want Hektor to be as diverse as the ground and the house allows us too.

We want to make a change with this project, and show we take steps towards a better world. That can be any kind of step, no matter how small.

We believe in an open and direct communication.

This is not our first rodeo

Over the past decade, we have worked on hospitality and arts projects, often supporting (international) artists. In 2014, during Kortrijk Biennale Interieur, we built a temporary hotel, where established brands met young designers in an old nunnery.

Between 2010 and 2018 we organized a series of events, in Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy (Milan Design Week) and Latvia promoting emerging talent from the lowlands. The organization was rewarded with The People of the Year award in 2011.
