I happened to stumble upon its significance in change-making art. It’s the year in which the 7000 oaks project of Joseph Beuys was introduced. In a timespan of 5 years, 7000 oaks were planted in and around Kassel. Seven thousand. Beuys’ idea was not to amuse people but to ignite change. If only all cities had done this at that time the world would probably be a little cooler. You can see more about Beuys’ work and the 7000 oaks at the Hamburger Bahnhof museum in Berlin.
