In my opinion, feminism is directly connected to animal rights. Finding the justice for any kind, giving any individual the right to be a mother, … there’s a massive connection. So reading this post on Feminist about Elephant Poaching and Africa’s First All-Women, Plant-Based Unit just fills my heart with joy.

Elephant poaching has decreased by 90% thanks to Africa’s first all-women, plant-based, anti-poaching unit, the Akashinga Rangers @weareakashinga 🎞️ by @natgeo

Akashinga, meaning “the Brave Ones” in the Shona language, is a remarkable team of anti-poaching rangers made up entirely of women who stand up for African wildlife. Founded in 2017, Akashinga recruits women from marginalized backgrounds—widows, single mothers, domestic abuse survivors, and those previously dependent on poachers—into the Akashinga Ranger Programme.

As the rangers train and learn how to protect ecosystems, they become stewards of these landscapes and wildlife while developing personal and financial security and elevating their communities.

Since 2017, their efforts have cut elephant poaching by 90% in Zimbabwe’s Lower Zambezi Valley, where they operate. The Akashinga Ranger Programme challenges traditional gender roles and places women at the center of conservation.

I would always make this example. You love chicken? I love chicken too. I didn’t quit eating chicken because I didn’t like it…

But check this out. If you burned yourself, and it blistered, what’s in the blister? And they would say, … mmm … pus or body fluids.

And I’d say OK. You take that piece of chicken, you stick it in the oven pull it out and you open it up. What is that stuff oozing out of that chicken?

And they’d go Ewwwww and I was like “they’ve taught you that that stuff easing out of the chicken is juice.” It’s body fluids.
